about

OK, so this is one of my all-time db faves. The time it takes to listen is the time it took to write. I did change the first two lines, even though a few really did like the way I say "happenin'" on this version. To be honest, it's about when I knew it was over between me and Coco and neither one of us had the strength to end it. A little play on words, thanks to the Tom Vanderwall analysis of country music, and a true bona fide db hit. We all make promises. We rarely keep them. Words, schmords. But looking back from this vantage point in life and I realize it wasn't wasted time at all. Coco taught me many lessons. I may have showed her a thing or two about living as well. Love only lasts as long as it does, and we can't go back to the way that it was. John Baskerville (bass), Philip Sterk (drums, harmonica), Rick Oltman (guitar), John Thompson (John Thompson), and me (guitar, vocals).

lyrics

WASTIN’ MINE

I know what’s goin’ on here
Though the words you say ain’t comin’ in clear
Your love left a long time ago
But you remain and your contempt grows

You’re bidin’ your time and wastin’ mine
Time flies and you’re wastin’ mine

You ought to give it some thought
Look at what you want and look what you got
Things change but people don’t
Why you say you will when you know you won’t

Words—schmords
I can feel it in my bones
Anyday now you’ll be up and gone

I know what’s goin’ on here
And it won’t be long I’ll find my solace in beer
Love only lasts as long as it does
And we can’t go back to the way that it was

Precious precious time
You’re wastin’ mine
Precious precious time
You’re wastin’ mine
Time flies
Time flies
Time flies
And you’re wastin’ mine
