about

This one fits well with my fascination with the passage of time. Looking back. Reassessing. Not only love, but life. Great opening lyric, "You ever heard of a has-been, well I never was." The song itself is pretty much for Talya. Met her years ago during my tenure at Tower Records. Met her on Feb. 29th, hence the leap year subtitle. Timing is everything. But the heart remains steadfast. Years do pile on, but so many things remain. Alas. Then I think about the time gone by, and all the time that's yet to come. I really do remember her first smile. And that last goodbye. Funny how time marches on. John Baskerville (funky bass), Philip Sterk (drums), Rick Oltman (guitar), John Thompson (John Thompson), and db (guitars, vocals).

lyrics

TIME MARCHES ON (LEAP YEAR)

You ever heard of a has been
Well I never was
And why I haven’t been
Well it’s just because
But I still think about you
Every now and then
And I’d kinda like to someday
See you again

Then I think about the time gone by and how time marches on

I held you in my arms
Like a ghost from the past
Ten years they pile on
Oh so fast
You were my princess
And I was your king
Funny how now that don’t mean a thing

Then I think about the time gone by and all the time that’s yet to come
Then I think about the time gone by and all the crazy things I done
Then I think about the time gone by when I found out you were gone
Then I think about when you were mine and how time marches on

I can’t hold on
I can’t let go

How do I look in your eyes now
Do they look like mine
Come ‘round every four years
Only to find

Then I think about the time I lied and how I done you wrong
About the time you were satisfied but not for long
Then I think about last goodbye and how I held you in my arms
Then I think about that time you smiled and how time marches on
