This song is about the child of one of my favorite people in the world, Barb Stavro. Don't get all pervie on me. Although if Stella Rae grows up anything like her mom, she'll be a knockout. That said, Barb sent me a pic of the kid and I put it on my fridge. Every morning when I'd get my grapefruit juice, I'd see the pic, and start walking around all morning, mumbling to myself, in my best Elvis voice, "Stella Rae..." Came home one night after classes at my alma mater, Northern Iowa, and penned this little dittie. Oh sure, it has a double entendre thing going on. But it's harmless. Read the lyrics. Clearly about a kid. Anne Hermann figured that out without me telling her. And Stella, if you don't believe it's about you, read the she's "half-Greek" lyric and that should settle that. Barb later had another precious child and named her "Frankie Lee." I better get to work on that one.
