about
This song is about many Sarahs. While they may differ in many ways, they all share one thing in common: they all come from Iowa. The inspiration came when the Hallmark channel broadcasted "Sarah, Plain and Tall." I'm pretty sure I wrote it the night Sarah had her first boy, Thomas. Giving special meaning to the line, "Sarah, she had a baby." So yes, Sarah, this song is about you. It's also about you, Sarah. And you too, Sarah dancing at Mainly Lou's. And you, Sara. Especially you. Or no one at all. Always a fave to play back in the day. And John Baskerville hits some sweet-ass harmony on the back-up vocals. Philip too. That's what really makes the song for me. That, and picturing Sara(h) shake it. John Baskerville (bass, vocals), Philip Sterk (drums, vocals), Rick Oltman (guitar), db (vocals, guitars).
lyrics
SARAH
When’s the last time I’ve written you a song
Been so long been so long
And I haven’t seen Sarah
Since she’s been gone
Sarah—plain and tall
It’s Sarah or no one at all
Sarah—I’m tellin’ y’all
It’s Sarah or no one at all
Sarah she had a baby
Sarah ran wild all her life
This little Sarah went whee whee whee
And this little Sarah’s my wife
When’s the last time I seen Sarah smile
Been quite a while quite a while
And Sarah’s got a way with hers
Like a prisoner’s got a way with a file
