about

OK, so this one's just silly. Probably why I still like it. Perhaps I should have sang it in a lower register because so many people say it doesn't sound like me. But the lyrics, all db. I remember when I lived in LA the late night commercials by Cal Worthington and his dog Spot. Very much the prototypical used car salesman. He would say, "If you can find a better deal, I'll eat a bug." With that mind, I wrote this one whilst dealing with maintaining a relationship with Coco. I'd do anything, but I couldn't do that. I'll let you figure out what it was. Great pedal steel solo by Dale Thomas. John Baskerville (bass), Philip Sterk (drums), Rick Oltman (guitar), Dale Thomas (pedal steel), and db (vocals, guitars).

lyrics

EAT A BUG

Well I’d walk through fire for you
There’s not too much that I wouldn’t do
Stand all night in the pourin’ rain
Just to hear you mention my name

I’d eat a bug
I’d skin a cat
I’d do anything
But I can’t do that

I’d do anything to show I care
Brush my teeth I’d even comb my hair
I’d put on my best socks and shoes
And rock away your lovesick blues

I’d dance a jig
I’d eat my hat
I’d do anything
But I can’t do that

You make me feel like I don’t belong
You scream turn it down while I’m a-singin’ this song
You keep your love under lock and key
And that’s askin’ too much of me

Well I’d swallow poison for you
Make Socrates look like a god damn fool
Burn my house down with rocket fuel
Just to hear you say
Everything’s cool

I’d eat a bug—I’d skin a cat
I’d do anything but I can’t do that
I’d give blood—I’d smoke crack
I’d do anything but I can’t do that
You gave it up now you hold it back
I’d do anything but I can’t do that
