about
Classic db. Wrote this one on the road to Texas, must've been in New Orleans when it started. I remember it well. The whole sordid story unfolds every time I hear it. I could tell you the details, but that might ruin it for you. Suffice to say, her freckled face and emerald eyes threw ol' db for a loop. I'm still reeling in many respects. The title came back to haunt me years later. And yes, I'm seeing the pattern. But at the heart of it all is what we do for love. We risk everything. Passion, shame, guilt, and ultimately acceptance that commitment is a choice. You can't help what you feel. What you do about it, well, that's another story altogether. Of course, being db and all, I could never understand why she chose him. But I'm comfortable in the knowledge that she does think about me often, and she still loves Jim. John Baskerville (bass), Philip Sterk (drums), Rick Oltman (guitar), and yours truly (vocals, guitars).
lyrics
BUT I DO LOVE JIM
So I ain’t exactly the kind of man that makes for a young girl’s fantasy
Although I look pretty good for my age and there’s times I’d like to be
That’s why her freckled face and emerald eyes
Took me for a fool and by complete surprise
Oh baby baby don’t you want me
Don’t you need me more than him
She said I thought about you for a long long time
But I do love Jim
So she had a husband but you couldn’t tell that that night
She left me with a smile and feelin’ allright
But the mornin’ came and I woke alone and my girl wondered where I’d been
All I wanted at that point was to feel that way again
Oh baby baby don’t you want me
Don’t you need me more than him
She said I’ll think about your for a long long time
But I do love Jim
Guilt lays heavy on a young girl’s mind
When she’s searchin’ just to be searchin’
Not knowin’ what she’ll find
She said she planned to move to Texas it was her last weekend in town
She met me in a bar and then she took me down
So I followed her to the river to do the things I could not do
And I cried all the way home just because I had to
Oh baby baby don’t you want me
Don’t you need me more than him
She said I’ll think about you often honey
But I do love Jim
