about

My first recording effort in Nashville. I wanted to demo as many db tracks as I could and attempted 40. We got 26. And now you have not one, but two volumes of db demos. Special thanks to the talented (and quite amusing) Nash Overstreet. Bad-ass rock star (who all the ladies love) and a fine, fine producer. Great fun recording, faux British accent pretty much the whole time. Just me and my guitar, some harmonica, a vocal effect or two, you'll have to use your imagination for everything else.

Track Name: Annie
ANNIE

Sunday mornin’ and I’m leavin’
Could you do a little somethin’ before I go
And it’s true I’m a heathen
I know

Annie say a little prayer for me
I’m tired and I’m hungry
Out here in the street
Annie say a little prayer for me

Monday afternoon and I’m almost gone
I don’t know how long a man with no home
Can hold on
I just don’t know

Annie say a little prayer for me
I’m drunk and I’m dirty
And I’m falling at your feet
Annie say a little prayer for me

When so many people want to be right
Annie just wants to get right

It’s Tuesday night now and God only knows
The reasons were all here for
Maybe it’s like Jesus told us
Give your blessings to the poor

Annie say a little prayer for me

Track Name: Bad Drunk
BAD DRUNK

Don’t hit the bars anymore
They don't do what they done before
I found a little more that's worth livin' for
Instead of pickin' myself up off of the floor
From a bad drunk
I’m not a bad drunk
Anymore

Don’t treat the girls like I used to
They don't say hey what did I do to
To deserve this to feel like a fool
Well I would fall from grace and then my bar stool
Like a bad drunk
I’m not a bad drunk
Anymore

I’m not the man I used to be
Looks like time has taken its toll on me
And this misery loves company
So come and have a drink on me

Don’t hit the bars anymore
I found a little more worth livin' for
Instead of pickin’ my ass up off the floor
From a bad drunk
I was a bad drunk
I been a bad drunk
I’m not a bad drunk
Anymore

I’m a good drunk

Track Name: But I Do Love Jim
BUT I DO LOVE JIM

So I ain’t exactly the kind of man that makes for a young girl’s fantasy
Although I look pretty good for my age and there’s times I’d like to be
That’s why her freckled face and emerald eyes
Took me for a fool and by complete surprise

Oh baby baby don’t you want me
Don’t you need me more than him
She said I thought about you for a long long time
But I do love Jim

So she had a husband but you couldn’t tell that that night
She left me with a smile and feelin’ allright
But the mornin’ came and I woke alone and my girl wondered where I’d been
All I wanted at that point was to feel that way again

Oh baby baby don’t you want me
Don’t you need me more than him
She said I’ll think about your for a long long time
But I do love Jim

Guilt lays heavy on a young girl’s mind
When she’s searchin’ just to be searchin’
Not knowin’ what she’ll find

She said she planned to move to Texas it was her last weekend in town
She met me in a bar and then she took me down
So I followed her to the river to do the things I could not do
And I cried all the way home just because I had to

Oh baby baby don’t you want me
Don’t you need me more than him
She said I’ll think about you often honey
But I do love Jim

Track Name: Can't Get Over You (My Muse)
CAN’T GET OVER YOU (MY MUSE)

I was thinkin’ about you last night
About how I screwed you over
And if you were alright

And it’s true you were always mine to lose
And I can’t get over you

I guess I owe you and apology
Everybody
Everybody saw it but me

And it’s true I got nothin’ left to prove
But I can’t get over you

You came in like a lion
You went out like a lamb
I guess you’re just that kind of girl
And I’m just that kind of man
That can’t get over you

I guess maybe I will see you around
This Christmas when I’ll be back in town

And it’s true you have always been my muse
And I can’t get over you

Track Name: Good Times
GOOD TIMES

It’s the one thing about this life
You got to hold on to the good times yo
Cause they ain’t comin’ twice
The hard times
They come everyday
It’s the good times
Don’t let ‘em get away

You gotta get to work and you’re late again
The boss is screamin’ and he never gives in
You play the game but you can never win
You know what I’m talkin’ ‘bout

Your coffee’s cold and it’s not your favorite cup
You sure could use a little pick me up
You give it your all but it’s never quite enough
Believe me when I say

You hurry home when the clock finally gets to five
There has to be a better way just to keep yourself alive
It’s hard just for you to survive
But it’s alright

We ain’t here for a long time
We’re just here for a good time

Take a tip from me
And very soon you’ll see

We ain’t here for a long time
We’re just here for a good time

Track Name: Isn't That the Way
ISN’T THAT THE WAY

Well I gave you my heart but you took it for granted
The way you treat me these days babe I can’t hardly stand it
I gave you all I had but you wanted more
I thank you very kindly show yourself to the door

Isn’t that just the way some people are

Well I bent down turn around to pick up your slack
You put a knife smack dab in my back
After all this time I thought I knew you
It just shows to go there’s not a lot you can do

Well I had a little faith but that’s all gone
How many more times can you do me wrong
Good friends are good friends when the good times roll
When the times get tough out the door they go

Isn’t that just the way some people are

Track Name: Lonely Tonight
LONELY TONIGHT

And I’m lonely tonight
I need some company
I need some company
Nothing seems right
I wish you were here with me
God I wish you were here with me
Tonight

And I’m lonely tonight
My only company
My only company
Is that ol’ dashboard light
I wish you were here with me
God I wish you were with me
Tonight

Didn’t you say that you loved me too
Didn’t I try to do right by you
But there’s no angel to come to our rescue

And I’m lonely tonight
God I wish you were next to me
God I wish you were next to me
So tired of this fight
So you could take what’s left of me
Take what’s left of me
Tonight

Track Name: Never Let Yesterday
NEVER LET YESTERDAY

Yesterday was a bad day
We all have them sometimes
But I know it’ll be alright
When the morning sun shines

Never let yesterday
Take up too much of today
Never let yesterday

Troubles come and they keep on comin’
And troubles go and just let them go
But I got a lot of love
And a song in my soul

Never let yesterday
Take up too much of today
Never let yesterday
Remind us of what we are not now
Never let yesterday

Traffic’s backed up for miles and miles out on the highway today
The job’s breaking my back breaking my mind and taking up all my time

Yesterday was a bad day
And the tears rolled down like rain
But I know it won’t be long
There’ll be a smile back on my face

Never let yesterday
Never let yesterday
Never let yesterday
Take up too much of today

Yesterday was a bad day

Track Name: Pure Potential
PURE POTENTIAL

There’s a longing in my soul
In my heart
There’s a hole
There’s an emptiness where my life used to be
And then you came and sat beside me

You are pure potential
You are next level
You are everything I need
You are living kindness
A breathing reminder
Of what a woman ought to be

The airport giveth
Giveth to us all
The airport taketh away
However many miles come between us
I know that I have seen us
On our wedding day

There’s a longing in your soul
In your heart
There’s a hole
There’s that guarded place very few can see
Then you came and sat beside me

I am pure potential
I am next level
I am everything you need
Some say why the bother
Because I remind you of your father
And what a man ought to be

We are pure potential
We are so next level
And we will always be

Track Name: Reminiscin'
REMINISCIN'

I get the feelin' like I used to
In my younger days
Babe I betcha get the blues too
In oh so many ways

Thinkin' about what could’ve been
There I go again
Reminiscin'

Can’t help but seein' the way we were
All those years ago
What did we do it all for
I guess we'll never know

You won’t remember
I can’t forget
It’s like we never met

Thinkin' about what could've been
But this is now and that was then
Take me back to a-way back when
There I go again
Reminiscin'

Take me back to a-way back when
We had somethin’ good I guess it had to end
I always thought girl you'd be my friend
There I go again
Reminiscin'

Track Name: Wastin' Mine
WASTIN’ MINE

I know what’s goin’ on here
Though the words you say ain’t comin’ in clear
Your love left a long time ago
But you remain and your contempt grows

You’re bidin’ your time and wastin’ mine
Time flies and you’re wastin’ mine

You ought to give it some thought
Look at what you want and look what you got
Things change but people don’t
Why you say you will when you know you won’t

Words—schmords
I can feel it in my bones
Anyday now you’ll be up and gone

I know what’s goin’ on here
And it won’t be long I’ll find my solace in beer
Love only lasts as long as it does
And we can’t go back to the way that it was

Precious precious time
You’re wastin’ mine
Precious precious time
You’re wastin’ mine
Time flies
Time flies
Time flies
And you’re wastin’ mine

Track Name: You Don't Know Me
YOU DON’T KNOW ME

I was headed for California back in 1973
My VW bus broke down outside Nashville Tennessee
But I had myself my guitar and a couple songs up my sleeve
I was only passin’ through I just sorta never did leave

Now you know my songs on the radio (on the radio)
But you don’t know me

I try to think about Elvis and Memphis and the creature from the black lagoon too
And I think it’s Beatle-esque Stones-ish and Buck-a-roo
When I heard about what mattered most to a girl from Baton Rouge
Sometimes what you don’t know really can hurt you

You might find me out sometime at the end of some sunny day
At the Exit-In or the Bluebird Café

So get your pen and paper your guitar now it’s alright
Make a million dollars overnight

Purple was the color of the dress she wore to the prom
All the kids laughed and she ran home into the arms of her mom
But she grew up oh so beautiful and you should hear her song
I swore she wore purple from that moment on

Track Name: You're Different (That's What Makes You Special)
YOU’RE DIFFERENT

Little dog
Can’t barely walk
But he got heart
And that’s enough
Ugly little dog
Hard hard life
But he got heart
And he don’t mind

You’re different
That’s what makes you special

He’s a pitiful, pitiful, pitiful, pitiful, pitiful, pitiful…
Mess of a dog
But he got heart
And he sure is strong
He’s comfortable

You’re different
That’s what makes you special

No more clickety clack
On the floor
Me and mama just want you back
You’re such a good boy

You should have been gone
A long time ago
But no
You got heart
And that’s enough
They call that love

You’re different
That’s what makes you special

He left his mark alright
On my heart
On the bedroom wall
One last sigh
And goodbye

You’re different
That’s what makes you special.
